decareto has been awarded the BSFZ seal for its in-house research and development projects. The award recognises the Hamburg-based company’s technological development from automated data protection audits to a platform for website compliance covering data protection and digital accessibility.

From start-up to established platform for website compliance

How can website compliance be reliably checked without having to manually analyse every website time and time again? It was with this idea in mind that decareto was founded in Hamburg in 2020. Six years on, it has grown into an established platform that enables data protection officers, , law firms and web agencies to check and monitor websites for data protection gaps and digital barriers.

The company’s technological development has now received official recognition: decareto has been awarded the BSFZ seal by the Certification Body for Research Allowances (BSFZ) for in-house research and development projects.

The seal is awarded exclusively by the BSFZ and demonstrates that a company carries out its own research and development projects, the eligibility of which for funding has been confirmed within the framework of the research allowance. The BSFZ is subject to technical and legal supervision by the Federal Ministry for Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR).

Since its foundation, decareto has consistently expanded its technology and portfolio. It began with automated data protection audits for websites. Today, the platform also includes audits on digital accessibility and a scan-based data protection generator.

This development has been shaped by the long-standing technical and technological expertise of Eckhard Schneider, founder and CEO of decareto. Together with his team of developers, he drives technological innovation forward. The development of proprietary analysis methods and their integration into a scalable software platform form the basis for decareto’s continuous development.

“When we founded decareto in 2020, we wanted to use technology to rethink a labour-intensive manual process. Today, our platform provides transparency and control over website compliance. The BSFZ seal of approval validates our research and development work and spurs us on to continue along this path,” says Eckhard Schneider.

decareto is continuing its development by expanding the platform from data protection audits to digital accessibility audits. In-house research and development forms the basis for improving analytical methods, opening up further areas of audit and efficiently automating complex compliance checks.

About the BSFZ seal

The BSFZ seal is awarded exclusively by the Research Grant Certification Body (BSFZ). Companies receive it when their research and development activities have been confirmed by the BSFZ as eligible for funding under the Research Grant Act. The seal serves as proof of a company’s innovative capabilities.
